College Health Corps, Sustainable Resources Center

Sustainable Resources Center (SRC) is a non-profit organization that believes everyone has a right to live in a safe, energy efficient, and healthy home. Our mission is to create healthy and energy efficient home environments in partnership with families and communities. Our programs include weatherization, lead hazard education and control, and aging-in-place services. Lead poisoning in children is still a serious public health concern affecting children’s brain and developing nervous system, causing reduced IQ, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Our goal is that families and community members be aware of the dangers of lead poisoning and the resources available to them. Be an integral part of expanding SRC’s volunteer/internship program to new university campuses to gain more student volunteers/interns. Use your creativity to impact health by creating new educational outreach materials and developing a train-the-trainer curriculum about lead poisoning prevention and healthy homes. Engage community partners and expand educational outreach events in low in-come neighborhoods of Hennepin County. Events will include lead blood screenings, health fairs, puppet shows, and presentations. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
