College Health Corps, Rochester Community Schools

Rochester Community Schools is a cross-sector partnership focused on supporting student success in three sites of the Rochester Public Schools. A key strategy in our work is addressing the health and wellness of students and their families. It can be challenging for families to make healthcare a priority when common barriers, including transportation, cost, and availability, stand in the way. And when these needs are met, students can better attend, learn, and succeed. This work depends on many partners and moving parts. We need to expand our capacity for data management and moving from data to action around health. As a VISTA, you will work with our team to build new -and deepen existing - health partnerships. Informed by the first year of this project, the 2nd year will focus on implementing health improvement initiatives in three areas: data processes, student and staff knowledge, and health process improvement. In each of these, you will be our key storyteller around health initiatives, collecting and sharing stories of our partnerships and impacts in the community. During this year, the VISTA will make a powerful impact while gaining valuable experience in health system development with the professionals in our medical, education, nonprofit, and public health partners. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : Work with leaders across Rochester to improve access for low-income students in our Community Schools to primary care as well as increase preventative health services within the school and broader community. Collaborate with health and education leaders to improve health data systems and processes in our three school sites, leading to more consistent, accessible health data for our schools and partners. Working with students from the University of Minnesota Rochester, create and share health-based educational offerings to increase health literacy for our students, staff, and families.
