College Health Corps, Normandale Community College

Normandale Community College is a vibrant, exciting, and diverse community that helps students to succeed and realize their potential. Our mission is to advance individuals’ intellectual, career, and personal development by providing outstanding teaching and support. We serve over 14,000 students across our region through both on-campus and online learning, as well as having robust support services available to students. This position will help to operationalize a Student Resource Center, build knowledge on campus among staff and faculty to better support students’ needs outside the classroom, and help develop relationships with local community partners to leverage resources and help support students. The position will reside within the Department of Student Life and will be supervised by the Director of Student Life. This position will increase student access to resources for food, healthcare, transportation, clothing, and housing, as well as other non-academic needs of students. By the end of the term of service, this person will have successfully helped launch a new center to support students, built relationships across campus, and had a direct impact on student success. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : This project will increase students’ access to health and wellness, food, housing, and other non-academic supports by increasing and strengthening partnerships with community organizations and establishing a Student Resource Center where partners can provide services and referrals. They will do this through increasing our capacity to provide supports through relationships with six community partners, significantly increase the number of students able to access services and referrals through the new Student Resource Center, and increase knowledge among faculty and staff about how to support students and their non-academic needs. This will include developing relationships, creating training and marketing materials for the new Center, and helping to build the Center into a vital support resource for students on our campus.
