Wagner College - CCNYPA

Wagner College’s Educational Pipeline is a partnership between K-12 schools in Staten Island’s north shore neighborhood of Port Richmond. This initiative seeks to direct students in the pipeline toward a college-going mindset through a series of educational interventions, mentorships, civic engagement and college access opportunities. The pipeline follows a cohort model previously implemented at the high school level. They are called Leadership Academies and are operated from a college satellite office located at each of the schools. The academies are: the Eagles Leadership Academy (ELA) with its office in the College and Career Center at P.S. 21; the Markham Leadership Academy (MLA) at the middle school level, operated from the Seahawk/Raider Center at I.S. 51 and the Port Richmond Partnership Leadership Academy (PRPLA), housed in the Wagner Raiders Center at Port Richmond High School. Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania VISTAs (CCNYPA*VISTAs) are part of a VISTA cohort of 40 members placed at higher ed. institutions across PA and NY to build campus-community partnerships. Professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the VISTA cohort will be provided throughout the year of service.

Member Duties : The goal of the VISTA is to assist in increasing parent engagement at the schools that have the academies, improving collaboration among the academies, and assess the impact of the interventions by mapping out current activities, analyzing existing data and identifying opportunities for collaboration and benchmarks at each of the academies. At the conclusion of this project, the VISTA will have contributed to the increase of parent engagement, improved collaborations among academies, and increase the number of students serviced in the pipeline schools as a result of the assessment data collected.
