The Education VISTA will work alongside the Office of PittServes focusing on increasing youth literacy rates and create mentoring and tutoring relationships to enhance the University's partnerships with Pittsburgh Public Schools and the Greater Pittsburgh community. Focusing on educational attainment, this position will have a lasting impact on a minimum of 80 3rd grade students who will be paired in 1-to-1 relationships with local after-school and community mentoring programs. The VISTA will also be responsible for recruiting, training and supporting college students to serve in these volunteer roles. Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania VISTAs (CCNYPA*VISTAs) are part of a VISTA cohort of 40 members placed at higher ed. institutions across PA and NY to build campus-community partnerships. Professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the VISTA cohort will be provided throughout the year of service.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorp VISTA will focus on sustainablity of the America Reads Program as well as the recruitment, rentention, and development of college student tutors. The VISTA will also be responsible for programmatic support of the Creative Empowerment for Youth(CEY) program. This support includes recruitment and training of CEY mentors.
