The Greater Reading Non-Profit Career Readiness Partnership aims to increase connections between local non-profit organizations and Alvernia University and to provide low-income students career-readiness skills through real-world experiences such as internships. Also, the partnership will offer career-readiness workshops to students enrolled at Reading High School, a district where the majority of students come from low-income or economically disadvantaged families. Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania VISTAs (CCNYPA*VISTAs) are part of a VISTA cohort of 40 members placed at higher ed. institutions across PA and NY to build campus-community partnerships. Professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the VISTA cohort will be provided throughout the year of service.

Member Duties : The VISTA will continue to develop meaningful relationships with a small cohort of Reading area non-profits and assist them in the intern hiring process. This would include assessing their current process for hiring interns, educating them on national standards and guidelines for interns, and providing data on how non-profits can support low-income students. The VISTA will also oversee a series of career-readiness activities and workshops designed to assist targeted low-income college-aged student develop skills and abilities marketable to employers.
