University of Pennsylvania - CACR - CCNYPA

The Career Readiness Internship Program and Employment Bank will sustain the current Internship Program as well as contribute to the development of an Employment Council that is comprised of community members, local businesses and after-school Netter Center staff whose purpose is to assist in finding and placing students into these positions. For its final year, the Vista Project will work to continue to assist West Philadelphia and Sayre public university-assisted community high schools to implement Internship to Employment programming. The Vista will continue the current efforts of implementation by participating in all team planning meetings and report out program progress and challenges and updates. The Vista will align multiple resources needed to prepare students for internship placement in both the surrounding community as well as within the University. 2019-2020 will primarily be focused on continuing to grow and institutionalize the Vista projects to become a fully sustainable program within the Netter Center. This project is designed to meet the needs of students in West Philadelphia. These needs include a deficit in workforce placed based experience, short-term and practical experiences and job training needed to learn about careers, develop networks, and build experience the workplace at the schools. Additionally, this project will address the lack of access to community based employers and local internship opportunities. Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania VISTAs (CCNYPA*VISTAs) are part of a VISTA cohort of 40 members placed at higher ed. institutions across PA and NY to build campus-community partnerships. Professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the VISTA cohort will be provided throughout the year of service.
