The Washington & Jefferson College CCNYPA*VISTA will be responsible for developing and enhancing the City of Washington Forward Vision Program (Forward Vision), a program that will address community blight and housing insecurity for low-income community members. The VISTA will build on the foundation of the project, recruit and train new volunteers, test, assess and adjust processes developed during this first year, select the next stage of project areas, and expand and develop community partnerships. Campus Compact of New York and Pennsylvania VISTAs (CCNYPA*VISTAs) are part of a VISTA cohort of 40 members placed at higher ed. institutions across PA and NY to build campus-community partnerships. Professional development opportunities, including specialized workshops and retreats, and support to the VISTA cohort will be provided throughout the year of service.

Member Duties : The VISTA will be responsible for continued development of the City of Washington Forward Vision Program which addresses community blight and housing insecurity for low-income community members. The VISTA will build on the foundation of the project by recruiting volunteers, gathering data, soliciting community partnerships, and laying the groundwork for a strategic vision for the success of program. The VISTA will work with Advisory Council and W&J staff to develop and execute the data collection volunteer program and will gain a full understanding of the systems being used by the Citywide CDC to gather and catalog information and create a system for managing applications and projects. The VISTA will create a database by nurturing sources of volunteers, train the volunteers to conduct the data collection and community assessment process. The VISTA will build on the existing efforts for Washington Make a Difference Day and create opportunities for youth engagement with housing projects.
