ShareCorps-SON Ministries-Outcomes and Procedures Associate

Serving Our Neighbors (SON) Ministries is a faith based not for profit which partners with children and families facing the unique challenges of suburban poverty in Hilliard, OH and beyond. The Hilliard City School District is Ohio's 8th largest school district with 16,312 students, of which 3,847 live in poverty and receive free/reduced lunch during the school year. Since 2005, there has been a marked shift in poverty from urban to suburban areas nationwide (Source: Brookings Institute). With a large and growing immigrant/refugee population for whom English is not their primary language, many of their children have fallen behind in school. Language barriers, illiteracy, work schedules, and a lack of current technology in their homes often prevent parents from helping their children with homework. Limited income prohibits families from seeking educational support for their children. Language barriers are obstacles to education and employment for adults. To address these needs, SON Ministries offers programming that includes the SON Ministries Summer Lunch Camp, Full Family ESL Program, Free Legal Clinic, Winter Wear - Children's Coat Store, Good Tidings Christmas Store and more.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will be responsible for continuing the plan that was put into place with our current one-year VISTA to measure objective qualitative outcomes across all programs and develop a comprehensive programs manual. Duties to accomplish these goals will include researching methods of program evaluation, surveying and interviewing program participants, and collecting, analyzing and illustrating data. The VISTA will also help create a manual around all procedures involved with SON Ministries programs to enable other organizations to replicate SON Ministries' services and successes in their community. By observing and analyzing current SON Ministries’ programs and services, the VISTA member will identify successes and areas for our organization to improve in order to assist families in Hilliard, Ohio and beyond.
