CCMA Improved Health & Wellness in Prince George’s County

During nine months out of the year, CKAR will utilize the enclosed patio of the new Sarvis Café site for community meetings (opening Spring/Summer 2019). This culinary arts training café will offer an Eat Well/Live Well menu as a change agent in the community to increase community participation and advocacy for good health and wellness. It will also serve breakfast and lunch daily. This project will use social media for outreach and community meetings to stimulate public advocacy for changes that positively impact awareness of the importance of health and wellness in Greater Riverdale. CKAR CDC is a non-profit community development corporation in Prince George’s County, Maryland. We serve an ethnically diverse population of native and foreign-born residents, documented immigrants, refugees, homeless, veterans, re-entry residents and youth 18-over from multiple communities in Greater Riverdale. These communities have long been burdened by high poverty rates and food deserts. The mission of CKAR is to strengthen the Greater Riverdale community through intertwined projects in workforce development, business support and environmental health, which we believe to be foundational to community resilience.
