ShareCorps- Canton Calvary Mission Summer Meals

The mission statement of Canton Calvary Mission is "serving Christ in the heart of the community by creating a safe haven and center for learning as well as providing for the spiritual and physical needs of the community". Programs offered reflect these words. Food and youth programs are the two main focus areas. Food programs include: food pantry, a Foodbank sponsored direct food distribution, backpacks for kids weekend meals, CACFP and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Youth programs are offered for kindergarten through high school students after school and during the summer. One-on-one tutoring, academic assistance, homework help, the arts, recreation, exercise, life skills, field trips, and much more are included. Diapers and formula are distributed. A free shopping room offers clothing, shoes, coats, household items, books, toys, and more. Classes in nutrition and health education are available as well as community resources.

Member Duties : Our VISTA member will be responsible for recruiting children for the summer lunch program. This will include community outreach and advertisement of the program. You will assist with the meal preparation and service and help plan and execute the pre/post meal enrichment activities with the children and teens. We are looking for someone who enjoys community based work, working with children, and being creative. Join us for a rewarding summer of service impacting the lives of at-risk youth!
