ShareCorps - Lorain CCC - Food Insecurity Resources VISTA

Lorain County Community College is committed to a bold action to develop and evolve innovative, evidence-based programs and processes to help high-risk students access, complete, and attain post-secondary credentials that lead to family sustaining jobs. LCCC has shifted its culture from one that expected students to be “college ready” to a student-centered culture that demonstrates that the College is “student ready” in direct alignment with its Number One Priority: Drive Student Completion for Academic and Career Success. It also broadened its commitment to the neediest students by creating and staffing a food pantry (The Commodore Cupboard) and emergency assistance program. To help relieve some of the stress related to food insecurity for students, the college has pledged to create a Hunger Free LCCC. To accomplish this, the college has partnered with local organizations and is building on the services offered by the Commodore Cupboard to create a discrete process with expanded services designed to more holistically serve those in need. This initiative significantly maximizes opportunities for LCCC to connect unused food to those who can benefit on our campus through a campus partnership with Conference & Dining Services. The campus Hunger Free Task Force addresses these endeavors and is working to create a dialogue around issues of hunger on and off campus.
