TNP Agriculture and Sustainability VISTA

As a VISTA serving with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership (TNP), you will help us complete the plan for our Urban Agriculture and Sustainability Campus which includes identifying funding through various grant programs and other avenues, helping to create a community outreach plan for our GROWing Better Gardens series, and using your radical imagination to plan a program where community members can sell their extra produce so that it may reach local residents through various sales avenues including farmers markets and small businesses where SNAP EBT can be utilized. The primary goals of this project will be to increase access to affordable and locally grown produce, increase the number of community members that are growing their own produce, and to provide the community with an educational space so that they may learn about more ways to grow and process their own foods in a sustainable manner.

Member Duties : VISTA member duties will include the creation of a plan for the Collaborative Learning and Sustainability Campus, research and creation of a plan for fundraising for the Collaborative Learning and Sustainability Campus, and grant writing in an effort to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable food system. The AmeriCorps VISTA will also evaluate and provide recommendations on current GROWing Better Gardens Curriculum and programming using information provided by residents, community partners, and community garden leaders. They will also perform community outreach and volunteer recruitment in an effort to increase the number of individuals growing their own food. The VISTA will also have the opportunity to research and create a plan for a system where community residents will be able to sell excess produce from their urban farms and garden plots to later be distributed to retail environments including small businesses and farmers markets that accept SNAP EBT payment.
