ReUse Industries Marketing VISTA

ReUse Industries (RU) seeks an energetic team member to help RU build capacity for marketing and communications in support of RU activities including Athens MakerSpace and the Make Your Future workforce training program. Based in Athens, OH, RU is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to building a zero waste economy in Appalachian Ohio through job creation, workforce training, community engagement and support for product-making entrepreneurs. The VISTA Member will develop, pilot and improve systems for marketing and communications to RU supporters, volunteers, patrons and the general public. Member activities will include 1) creation of a comprehensive RU contact database; 2) development of online and hard-copy newsletters; 3) development and implementation of social media strategy for all RU activities (retail, product-making, Athens MakerSpace, Make Your Future); 4) production, marketing and photo/video documentation of at least 24 community engagement events; and 5) comprehensive photo and video documentation of the Make Your Future program. Athens MakerSpace is RU’s 5,000 square-foot facility providing workspaces, tools and classes to help local and regional individuals develop new hands-on skills and income-generating ventures via multiple creative disciplines including woodworking, metalworking, fabric-fiber arts, electronics and several forms of digital design and fabrication 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing). RU’s Make Your Future program provides work experience and employment training to low-income individuals seeking to build work histories and skills to help them succeed in the regional job market. The program has three tracks – retail (two stores plus an online store), upcycled product-making and self-directed makerspace project – intended to provide a well-rounded experience and a range of skills to trainees, in turn improving trainee capacity to obtain and succeed in employment opportunities.

Member Duties : Develop and improve systems to manage contact information for RU supporters, patrons, partners, funders, etc.; Develop systems, standard operating procedures and pilot efforts for communications with supporters, volunteers and patrons, including quarterly newsletters (online and hard-copy) and flier and post card communications; implement a social media strategy for all RU activities (retail, product-making, Athens MakerSpace, Make Your Future); develop an RU photo/video archive and comprehensive photo and video documentation of the Make Your Future program. Support development and production of at least 24 community engagement events including Crafty Saturdays, Maker Meet Ups, Fix-It Workshops, volunteer events, the 5th Annual Appalachian Ohio ReUse Competition and other Athens MakerSpace events. Develop standard operating procedures for producing and marketing these events (through radio (PSAs), community calendars, and social media).
