OU-Lawrence County Employment Opportunity VISTA

Ohio University-Southern Campus seeks to: 1) increase employment opportunities and 2) increase and maintain assets for individuals through this project in the Lawrence County, Ohio area. A LIGHTS VISTA will foster new capacity for students and residents to find employment career pathways, build businesses, and make new products all with the intention of alleviating poverty and building economic vitality in the Tri-State region. The business and development incubation project (aka Innovation Gateway) needs valuable assistance in acquiring and analyzing data that provides strong market demand for their service delivery and tracks the impact of the program as it is being developed. To build the capacity of the business development and incubation project, the VISTA will research and write grants that can help support the efforts. Through the identification of new business opportunities, the VISTA can provide the business development and incubation project with valuable prospects. Most importantly, the VISTA will assist the Gateway in bringing more individuals into their locations by working with the local Workforce Development Boards to identify the neediest individuals. Because Innovation Gateways are inherently community-based, residents have been and will continue to be involved in the development through focus groups, surveys (on-line and face-to-face), and in the provision of skills training for one another.
