FutureHeights 2020 VISTA
FutureHeights launched a market-rate, owner occupant rehab housing program in the spring of 2019, FutureHomes. Through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, FutureHeights will be expanding the program activities to directly impact LMI residents and, potentially LMI tenants. The VISTA will research the housing market in selected target areas in Cleveland Heights to select a home that would be eligible for rehabilitation. The VISTA will work on creating a development strategy for the FutureHomes project to monitor and ensure best practices are being used, while working with developers to provide a quality renovation for a potential LMI buyer or tenant. The VISTA will engage with residents to promote awareness of the program and to connect homeowners to various city, county, nonprofit and other services available for home maintenance. The goals are to help build housing stability, provide overall assistance for home maintenance, promote sustainability within the housing stock, and increase opportunities for homeownership in the surrounding neighborhood. The VISTA will develop relationships with residents, community organizations, service providers, city and county representatives, developers and contractors, nonprofit organizations and other key stakeholders. These relationships and partnerships will advise the direction, approach and strategy for the FutureHomes program. The VISTA will work in partnership with and be supported by the FutureHeights Housing and Planning & Development committees, City of CH staff, and neighborhood leaders to advise FutureHeights on how best to aid neighborhood stabilization.
