Community Food Initiatives Fall 2019 VISTA
 
 
 
The Food Justice Capacity Building VISTA ( FJ VISTA) will help build the capacity of CFI to address the root cause of hunger, through supporting programing that creates a broadened awareness of the class and culture divide that exists in Athens County, and how this divide impacts the hungry. This programming will consist of awareness, and education for all participants on the social factors that are barriers to access increase access to fresh and healthy foods. For low SES participants this program will also include mentorship and leadership skills training. This programing will address the root causes of poverty and well as creating an immediate increase in CFI’s ability to provide fresh healthy and locally grown produce and other products.

Member Duties : Grant writing to support the development and funding of a community food leadership and justice program; Development and administrative support for a new food justice and equity community of practice (COP) -The Food Justice and Equity Learning Community (FJELC); Create promotional and marketing tools to increase awareness and participation for CFI ,in particular our Donation Station and new FJELC, and community-based leadership programs; Create volunteer recruitment and training materials to assist with supporting CFI AFPN/FJELC efforts; Organize monthly community of practice COP meetings ( to be facilitated by the executive director) of the Athens Food Policy Network, to provide opportunities for members to discuss issues, learn about the political process,and discuss current events impacting the community.
