Boston Workforce Development - Data & Evaluation VISTA

The Data Systems & Evaluation VISTA will support the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development (OWD) to increase overall evaluative capacity through development of qualitative and quantitative data collection tools and processes, improving data systems and data quality, assisting with tracking participants’ progress from pre-program to post program completion. OWD is an innovative public agency that seeks to promote economic self-sufficiency to ensure the full participation of all Boston residents in the city’s economic vitality and future, seeking to connect low-income residents with job training and employment opportunities and to promote lifelong literacy and educational pathways. This VISTA project will work to connect low-income Boston residents to job skills training, post-secondary education, and financial resources that facilitate economic opportunities and financial stability. Three VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as refining evaluation tools and systems, developing comprehensive and coordinated outreach strategies, and deepening the institutional partnership between OWD and Boston Public Schools (BPS). VISTA members' service will support Boston Saves, Tuition Free Community College (TFCC), and the City Academy program. OWD’s VISTA project will have the primary objectives of: 1) Developing systems for improved evaluation and recruitment; 2) Leveraging resources and relationships in the community and with partnering City agencies; and 3) Increasing resident engagement in program planning. VISTAs will build knowledge of existing systems and help to identify gaps and areas where improvements will help OWD’s special projects to increase effectiveness of service delivery and grow to scale. The ultimate outcome of these efforts will be to maximize the ability of Boston Saves, TFCC, and City Academy to positively impact community members’ economic and financial stability and increase upward mobility.
