Community Grief Center Capacity Building VISTA

The Capacity Building VISTA, located at the Community Grief Center (CGC) located in the heart of Greeley, Colorado will work to expand our programs via partnerships with youth-serving agencies and funders. A small nonprofit organization established by the community in 2016, the Community Grief Center’s mission is to help people of all ages who are grieving or anticipating a death find connection and healing; and educates the community on griefs impact on the individual and society. We are not a counseling center. Our unique model of grief support is based on Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s companioning model*. Knowing that a death can be a detriment to household stability, youth development and older adults’ health, the CGC is involved in those three United Way Weld County collective impact initiatives, Thriving Weld’s Healthy Mind & Spirit collaborative and the Weld Suicide Prevention Coalition/Imagine Zero Weld County. We offer free grief support services including monthly Understanding Grief classes for adults, a weekly drop-in Healing Stitches needlework and crafting grief group as well as several specialized 8-week grief support groups for various types of losses. Learn more at www.communitygriefcenter.org. The City of Greeley is situated in the Northeastern Front Range of Colorado and continues to experience growth and development. Every year, Greeley is home to the “Greeley Stampede” Rodeo, the “Blues Jam” music festival, the Greeley Arts Picnic, and “Friday Fest” a free outdoor concert hosted weekly throughout the summer. Greeley also has a world-class civic center that brings in a wide variety of entertainment including comedians, Broadway shows, concerts and family shows. *See http://tmsd.mb.ca/Crisis%20Plan/Section%205/5-O%20Companioning%20Philosophy.pdf
