Anti-human Trafficking Fund Development, OneStar

Everyone deserves freedom. However, victims of human trafficking do not experience the freedoms that most people take for granted. Houston is one of the major hubs for trafficking and The Landing is the only daytime drop in center in the city working with survivors of this horrific crime. We serve survivors of human trafficking with a trauma informed approach. Many of The Landing’s clients have experienced generational poverty, are experiencing homelessness, have very little to no formal education, and receive very little to no consistent income. In fact, poverty is one of the main causes of human trafficking. One of the ways we help clients achieve freedom and escape poverty is through economic opportunities. The Landing’s strategic programming and partnerships allow us to serve clients in a variety of areas, meeting physical and emotional needs, and empowering them to reach their goals. One very important aspect of their growth is job skills training, which allows clients to break free from the cycle of trafficking, prostitution and poverty. In just three years, The Landing has seen exponential growth and is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA to help improve and support the financial sustainability plan of The Landing so that more survivors of human trafficking can be served in Houston.
