Farm to School Summer Associates
 
 
 
Weld County School District 6, Nutrition Services is searching for two individuals to serve for 10 weeks this summer in Greeley, Colorado. This is a great opportunity for an individual that is interested in gaining valuable in volunteer management, nutrition education, and school garden management. WCSD6 Nutrition Services’ mission is to Nutrition Services supports student achievement by offering healthy, great-tasting meals and promoting overall wellness through nutrition education opportunities and connecting students to their food via Farm to School and school garden programs. We have been on a mission to kick out highly processed foods and completely revamp our system which included opening a centralized production kitchen to support the preparation of fresh meals from scratch, sourcing local ingredients. WCSD6 Nutrition Services department is a unique opportunity to see a model of school foodservice that cooks ~11,000 meals daily from scratch, sources locally, and focuses on nutrition education in order to help students meet their academic potential. Members can gain skills and experience in facilitating nutrition and garden-based education, maintaining and managing school gardens and working within a school district, and experience with community outreach and promoting programs.

Member Duties : Member duties include: 1.) Maintain 12 school gardens to include watering, weeding, and harvesting as necessary, 2.) Work with volunteers and support their projects and assignment, 3.) Promote and advertise at the Farmer’s Market of D6’s Summer Food Service Program sites to the community to increase awareness and participation in the free meal program, 3.) Assist with nutrition and garden-based education to young children.
