2020-2021 City of Las Vegas Veteran Services VISTA

In order to reach veterans outside of VA care, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and VA invited communities to come together for the first Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF). The City of Las Vegas (CLV) was one of the eight teams that responded to the call and participated in the challenge. The goal of the Mayors Challenge to Prevent Suicide among SMVF is to eliminate suicide among at-risk SMVF using a comprehensive public health approach to suicide prevention. As a CLV Mental Health VISTA, you will build capacity in the City's Veteran's Services Initiative and The Mayor’s Challenge by addressing key issues affecting suicide prevention including preventive factors and connectivity. Application Deadline: July 23, 2020 at 5 p.m. PST. As a VISTA, your service will start on August 31, 2020 and end of August 30, 2021. During this time, you will be a full-time member and report to work at Las Vegas City Hall. You will also receive the logistic and supervisory support from CLV staff and will be eligible to participate in all CLV professional development and organizational health trainings. As a VISTA, you are entitled to 10 personal days and 10 medical days. For VISTA members serving in Clark County, you will earn a living allowance of $479.08 per pay period (total of $12,490 for the year). In addition, for successfully completing your year of service, you have the option to be eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or the VISTA end-of-service cash stipend. The value of the education award is $6,095.00. The value of the end-of-year cash stipend is approximately $1,800.00.
