2019 Habitat Program Expansion VISTA - La Crosse, WI

Habitat for Humanity's vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Nearly 20% of WI residents pay more than 50% of their family income for housing. The 37 WI affiliates are addressing the need for affordable housing by partnering with families to build, rehab or repair homes. The HFH WI VISTA program’s goal is to enhance sustainable home repair programs to preserve housing and help more families. With passion, commitment, and hard work, our VISTAs help affiliates bring individuals & communities out of poverty. Located along the beautiful Mississippi River, HFH La Crosse serves La Crosse, Vernon, and Trempealeau counties in western Wisconsin, and Houston County in Minnesota. Dedicated to bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope, HFH La Crosse has built over 40 homes since becoming an affiliate in 1992 and continues to improve housing conditions.

Member Duties : As the Critical Home Repair VISTA, you will expand HFH La Crosse’s program by 20% & develop veterans build programming, enabling the affiliate to better serve low income homeowners in their community. 1) Assess the program’s needs, such as volunteer recruitment & community outreach. 2) Connect w/ community partners to spread the word about both recruiting volunteers an&d connecting w/ homeowners. 3) Establish HFH La Crosse as an official Veterans Build affiliate, w/ a goal of completing 1,000 veterans build volunteer hours. 4) Compile all documents & create a Veterans Build Program manual. 5) Identify & connect w/ partners such as the local VA, American Legion Posts, VFWs, Project Rubicon, and Mission Continues. 6) Increase sustainability of both Critical Home Repairs/Veterans Build programs through fundraising. Interviews are done on a rolling basis. Please submit an application as soon as possible to ensure consideration. Selection may be made before deadline date posted.
