CCMA Fostering Terp Success

Through partnership and collaboration, we will implement an innovative three-year project to address the needs of University of Maryland students who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or lack a support network. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity for the Fostering Terp Success initiative and implement a comprehensive strategy to remove barriers for students, help them persist through graduation, and build opportunities for their future. The Fostering Terp Success CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will work to complete three main goals over the three-year period for this project. The first goal is to establish sustainable training and outreach efforts for Campus Coaches, Campus Advocates, and peer mentors. This will be accomplished by reviewing current practices, researching best practices at other programs across the country, and creating a mentoring tool-kit and ongoing support and professional development for peer mentors, coaches, and advocates. The second goal is to strengthen existing partnerships and establish new community and off-campus collaborations. This will be accomplished by maximizing our partnership with Fostering Change Network, as well as establishing a connection with Prince George’s County Department of Social Services to identify key mechanisms to support Fostering Terp Success students, particularly related to homelessness. The third goal is to assess the Fostering Terp Success trainings, programs, and resources and evaluate the impact of this initiative on Fostering Terp Success students. This will be accomplished through the creation and utilization of formal survey instruments, and gathering frequent and ongoing feedback from Fostering Terp Success students, Fostering Terp Success Working Group, Campus Coaches, Campus Advocates, Fostering Change Network, and other key stakeholders.
