CCMA Supporting Returning Citizens at TU
 
 
 
The Supporting Returning Citizens at TU initiative will support returning citizens in their pursuit of higher education through: increasing awareness of the challenges returning citizens face for successful reintegration; delivering public presentations aimed at reducing the stigma associated with justice system-involved individuals; identifying and implementing best practices within institutions of higher education in order to support returning citizens; conducting targeted educational workshops as well as recruitment of interested returning citizens through partnerships with regional detention centers, reentry service providers, and interested community groups; and, comprehensive mentorship of returning citizen students from pre-application to completion of a college degree.

Member Duties : The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA serving at Towson University as part of the “Supporting Returning Citizens at TU” initiative will play an important role in establishing a sustainable educational program to support returning citizens in their pursuit of higher education. The CCMA-AmeriCorps VISTA will support the project’s awareness-building, outreach, training, and assessment efforts. Specifically, the CCMA-AmeriCorps VISTA member will: (1) Review research on best practices related to program goals, (2) Maintain a database on campus and community resources, (3) Conduct outreach efforts on campus and in the community, (4) Deliver presentations to campus and community groups, (5) Assist in program assessment efforts, (6) Coordinate with campus and community partners to achieve project goals, and (7) Complete an end-of-year report.
