CCMA UMD Campus Pantry

Through partnerships and collaboration, we will implement an innovative three-year project to address hunger in our community through programmatic interventions led by students who have experienced food-insecurity as well as through strengthening policies on campus for sustainable change. This position at UMD will build capacity to fundamentally transform our ability to address the basic and unmet needs of thousands of vulnerable students in order to build a sustainably healthy and academically successful UMD community. This position will support three main goals. The first is to establish the Hunger Free UMD Work-Group. By leveraging existing and creating new campus connections, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will formalize the existing network of stakeholders addressing campus food insecurity through the establishment of the Hunger Free UMD Work-Group. The second goal is to foster and structure community and off-campus collaborations. In support of the Hunger-Free UMD Work-Group, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will strengthen existing and establish new community and off-campus collaborations. Finally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will empower students, specifically low-income adult students, to take a lead role in developing a Hunger Free UMD. Opportunities will be developed, implemented, and documented in the comprehensive program manual and will include training modules. A key aspect of this student-engagement and empowerment will be the development of the resource guide for at-risk students.
