Tillamook County Wellness Promotion and Diabetes Prevention
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: Tillamook County Health Department (TCHD), also known as Tillamook County Community Health Centers (TCCHC), is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), offering traditional Public Health services in three community health centers which provide Primary Care, dental and Integrated Behavioral Health services. No one is refused service due to inability to pay. Tillamook County Public Health focuses on prevention and uses selected interventions to prevent the spread of disease and reduce health risks. The Tillamook County Wellness Promotion & Diabetes Prevention VISTA will be a critical piece of this county’s vision, working to maintain a county wide wellness coalition and create healthy communities within the county. Tillamook County is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities, including public beaches, abundant hiking and water trails. It is also very close to urban areas such as Mt. Hood, Portland, etc. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Tillamook is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The VISTA will build capacity through partnership development, data collection and analysis, and strategic planning at Tillamook County Wellness. This involves all aspects of community organizing and the role of public health in community wellness, including building strong partnerships with local government, community care organizations, and non-profit agencies to better meet the health needs of low-income residents. The VISTA member will collaborate with community partners to identify, develop and promote low/no-cost options for healthy activities for low-income communities and Medicaid populations to help reduce risk for type 2 diabetes and improve overall health. The VISTA will also attend monthly Columbia Pacific Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) local Community Advisory Council and social service agency directors’ meetings to develop awareness of local needs and available services.
