Lake Health District Community Health Improvement VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista Lake Health District is the county’s largest employer. It recently completed a clinic expansion and is constantly working to ensure Lakeview has access to the best healthcare available. The health district includes outpatient clinic services in Oregon and California; a critical access hospital; and countywide behavioral health services. It also operates the county public health department. Lake Health District’s Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) aims to help Lake County residents live healthier lives. CHIP involves as many people in its decision-making processes and works hard to help people view health broader than the traditional healthcare system. Many programs target low-income individuals, including those on Medicaid and children living in poverty. Such programs include reducing barriers to help Medicaid recipients complete potentially life-saving cancer screenings, coordinating with a regional dental agency and local school districts to ensure children have annual dental screenings, and operating a summer lunch program that feeds all children 18 and younger for free. CHIP serves communities throughout Lake County and it is based in beautiful Lakeview, where year-round outdoor recreation opportunities and gorgeous scenery abound. Small-town community spirit is alive and well here, with neighbors who watch out for one another and strangers who smile at you on the street. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Lakeview is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health!
