Linn County Vulnerable Populations VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: www.healthoregon.org/vista Linn County Public Health is located in the southern Willamette Valley of Oregon. Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) is a program within Public Health, to develop and implement strategies to prepare for, mitigate, respond and recover from emergencies. PHEP collaborates with organizations and community partners on planning efforts to address how government, healthcare and local agencies will respond during an emergency. The preparedness program collaborates with community partners and would like to expand outreach methods further into the community. A good candidate is/has the following experiences: 1. A self-motivated, creative, and resourceful individual who enjoys working with diverse groups of people in a team environment. 2. Experience and/or desire to work with community members. 3. Ability to articulate ideas and conduct presentations. 4. Ability to develop effective educational materials. 5. Intermediate level MS Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Publisher. 6. Post-secondary course-work in a related field (Emergency Management, Planning, Communications, Marketing, Public Health, Social Work, etc.). Member Duties : This project collaborates across community organizations to build a more resilient community for emergency preparedness, healthy communities, and aid with the local public health accreditation. The AmeriCorps VISTA will partner with social service agencies to enhance preparedness efforts and foster self-sufficiency amongst their clients. The project will also entail helping social service agencies to address their own business continuity plans such that low-income community members can continue to receive services during disasters. The project will support the ongoing accreditation efforts of the health department. Accredited health departments implement a set of standards to assure that low-income community members have access to high quality, effective services and health programs.
