Families In Transition VISTA

The Grand Island Public Schools, located in Hall County, is a comprehensive school system offering education to students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The district includes a preschool, thirteen elementary schools, three middle schools, an alternative middle school, one senior high school, an alternative high school and a career academy campus. Combined, these buildings house over 9,800 students. Our mission is “Every Student, Every Day, A Success! In educating students, we teach hearts as well as minds.” 68%+ of our students receive free/reduced lunch and 17% of children live in poverty in our area. Our Outreach Coordinator has focused on elementary school children and families for the last 40 years, as well as all homeless students. Currently, there is a need for more support for the 200-300 homeless and near-homeless adolescent youth in our school district.
