Serve New York VISTA 2019: Catholic Charities
 
 
 
Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Catholic Charities works to improve the conditions of the poor and vulnerable throughout Western New York. The agency serves those in need without regard to religion, race or age with the goal of optimum emotional, mental and physical health for all. Catholic Charities provides education and job preparation programs for those in need. The VISTA member will support the growth and diversification of the annual appeal, in support of the expansion of workforce development and job placement programs. The member will conduct donor research, write grants, and plan events with the goal of increasing funding resources to support education and job placement programs and to expand community awareness of impact. The VISTA member will expand Catholic Charities' workforce development and education programming through amending advancement practices and procedures, conducting donor and market research, coordinating fund raising events, community outreach, and cultivating of new donors.
