APIA Elder Engagement VISTA
 
 
 
The VISTA member will be directly involved in development for the Elder program including; organizing and re-organizing current programming and program policy development for programs covering 10 communities within the region. The VISTA will work closely with Unangan communities in the region and individuals from the region who have relocated to the urban areas. APIA staff will help provide support and the link for the VISTA member to the communities and tribes as each community program and policy may differ. When necessary and with funding permitting, the VISTA member may travel and facilitate program development in the communities. The VISTA member will be coordinating and developing programming side by side with community members to fit the community needs and capabilities. One established resource that will be used to connect the VISTA member with each community will be through the Elder Discussion Committee. The Elder Discussion Committee is comprised of members from each community in the region that have interest in Elder care and Elder services and meets telephonically on a monthly basis.

Member Duties : Our intentions are to align the VISTA members’ project with our Elder program and health department teams. The VISTA will enhance the capacity of the organization by developing Elder Program initiatives including; Development of Elder congregate and delivered meal programs, Elder transportation programs and a variety of health promotion and disease prevention efforts to improve the delivery of health care services and health care education to the Elders and stakeholders in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands communities we serve. This VISTA member will use current partnerships established with tribes and local entities to coordinate and develop additional services for Elders within each communities.
