Serve New York VISTA 2019: BRRAlliance, Inc.

Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : BRRAlliance, established in 2011 to help preserve the history of their communities expanded their mission as the scope of need became clearer. It now includes addressing access to healthy lifestyle choices with educational programs, safe play spaces, community gardens, focused ecology programs to preserve or restore the balance of nature, and by encouraging preservation and restoration efforts of historical properties. The BRRA also positively impacts economic development by securing and administering funding for commercial property renovations which lead to new businesses and local job opportunities. The VISTA member will be a vital part of the BRRA team. With focused efforts on increasing volunteers, this position will allow us to expand on existing programs, implement new programs in need of volunteer support, extend our outreach, and help us serve more residents of our community including youth at risk.
