Expanding Justice Housing

VISTA Strong Communities, a cohort overseen by the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED), is seeking a VISTA candidate to serve at Jubilee Housing (jubileehousing.org). The mission of Jubilee Housing is to build diverse, compassionate communities that create opportunities for everyone to thrive. We reach this mission through the development and management of “justice housing” -deeply affordable housing in a resource rich neighborhood. We deliver or partner with other organizations to provide appropriate services to allow our residents and program participants to thrive. Services include out of school time programs for children and youth, support services for returning citizens, and a range of social service and financial coaching for low income and low wealth residents of Jubilee Housing. The VISTA project will provide research/support for initiatives designed to increase the availability of public financing for new affordable housing. The project will also support Jubilee and citywide initiatives designed to improve the quality and availability of out of school time programs for at risk youth. Finally, the project will work with city wide initiatives designed to facilitate successful outcomes for returning citizens -residents returning home after a period of incarceration.

Member Duties : The VISTA project will provide support for initiatives designed to increase the availability of public financing for new affordable housing and after-school programs for at-risk youth. The project will also work with city wide initiatives designed to facilitate successful outcomes for returning citizens. Duties include: (1) Research best practices of housing, returning citizens, and after-school programming; (2) Strengthen partnerships between Jubilee Housing and other coalitions designed to strengthen the environment for housing, returning citizens, and after-school programs; (3) Assist property management department with coordination of transfers of residents between apartment communities as new properties complete renovations and move forward with tenant occupancy; (4) Assist family services department to identify appropriate resources for senior residents and develop a resource guide for community use.
