Homeless Services Volunteer Coordinator (Portland, OR)

Since 1992, JOIN has supported over 10,000 people in their efforts to find permanent housing. Historically over 80% of those people remain stable in their housing for the long-term. JOIN’s unique approach leverages the strength and wisdom of the people experiencing homelessness with whom we work. Our programs include a Street Outreach team that engages people experiencing homelessness on the street, a Housing Retention team that provides post-housing placement support to new households, a Day Center that provides critical basic services, and an experiential learning Immersion Program. JOIN is also the lead organization on several system-wide, multi-agency collaborations that creatively and collaboratively address issues like family homelessness, access to private market rental housing, culturally-responsive services, engagement with homeless individuals in organized camps and others. Not only does JOIN address individuals’ immediate housing needs, but our organization also plays a crucial advocacy role at local and regional levels, helping to shape policy, resource allocation, and innovative solutions. JOIN is one of our community’s best assets in the fight to ensure that all of our neighbors have access to a safe and stable home. The VISTA member will build critical organizational capacity and help JOIN more effectively capitalize on our community’s energy to engage in the complex issue of homelessness.
