PHENND Fellow - FAFSA Completion Coordinator VISTA
The School District of Philadelphia is a large urban school district that includes all public schools in Philadelphia. It encompasses 220 traditional public schools and approximately 80 charter schools. Established in 1818, it is one of the top ten largest school districts in the United States and is the largest public school system in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, serving close to 200, 000 children. With a focus on equity, innovation, and quality, Dr. William R. Hite serves as Superintendent of The School District of Philadelphia, The overarching goals of the SDP are: 100% of students will graduate ready for college and career; 100% of 8-year-olds will read on grade level, and the SDP will have 100% of the funding it needs for great schools, and zero deficit. PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development) is a 25-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. As part of our K-16 Partnerships Network, the PHENND VISTA project represents the sixth year of partnership with the School District of Philadelphia to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia.

Member Duties : This second year VISTA at the Office of Postsecondary Readiness at the School District of Philadelphia will address the need for Philadelphia high school seniors to better understand the college financial aid process to make more informed college choices and have better college retention. The VISTA will 1) help develop a District-wide FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completion strategy and a financial aid timeline, 2) organize FAFSA resources and trainings for counselors and partners, and 3) The VISTA will also identify volunteer support from the financial aid community and partner organizations to assist with building capacity for FAFSA support for district schools. 4) The VISTA will maintain a comprehensive database of scholarships available to high school students in Naviance; the district’s college and career platform.
