Serve New York VISTA 2019: WNY Law Center
 
 
 
Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : The Western New York Law Center is a not for profit law office that represents homeowners in danger of foreclosure as well as individuals with various consumer debt issues. Work with the Law Center as they coordinate the Distressed Properties Taskforce of Erie County to address the problem of vacant and abandoned properties in the City of Buffalo and throughout Erie County. 2) Help with coordination of meetings of the Distressed Properties Task Force. 3) Identify and analyze foreclosure data in Erie County and identify and chart the municipalities and neighborhoods where foreclosures are most frequent; track and chart vacant properties in the City of Buffalo for Task Force use. 4) Identify and secure funding sources for continuation of this work. 5) Develop and implement outreach plans
