City of Greeley Volunteer Resource Associate

The City of Greeley provides a wide range of public services to area residents and relies upon volunteers to make its services free or affordable to as many residents as possible. Volunteers are recruited to serve on a variety of boards and commissions. Volunteers are also used to assist in providing program support in many recreational programs, such as youth sports coaches, special event activities, and for museum and cultural programming. While volunteers have been successfully engaged in many of these programs, there are inconsistencies in recruitment, program access and information, managing the “care and feeding” of volunteers, and recognition. In addition, there is no central point of contact for volunteer services to help describe and elicit community engagement in public service to the City. Several programs, which need volunteers, have not been as successful in securing the help they need and spend last minute and unproductive time in volunteer recruitment and do not have a formalized system to sustain those efforts. Volunteer engagement in public services offers a number of benefits: a.) Benefits the whole community by enabling programming which benefits local quality of life; b.) Provides services to many populations in the City who, due to income, age, access, ability, would otherwise not have access to such programs; c.) Provides a training ground for skill development and experience for individuals who are looking to enhance job skills; d.) Provides an opportunity for retirees and those who have skills to continue to put their talents to productive use, adding value to their lives and those they serve; e.) Stretches local tax dollars to leverage public investments with citizen engagement
