LKC: Metropolitan Energy Center Program Development

In Kansas City, low-income households (largely renters) pay on average 8.5% of household income on utilities, contributing to financial stress on households. Increasing home energy efficiency helps renters lower their energy usage and utility bills. Metropolitan Energy Center's mission is to transform energy use in America's Heartland, leading to sustainable, efficient, and environmentally healthy communities. Metropolitan Energy Center is a sub-site of the Literacy KC VISTA Program. The Literacy KC VISTA Program seeks to address illiteracy through a concentration on traditional literacy as well as health literacy, financial literacy, and digital literacy. The VISTA members and organizations that participate in the Literacy KC VISTA Program take a holistic, collaborative approach to literacy, building the organizations’ capacity to serve their clients, and addressing poverty in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
