College Health Corps, UMN Opioid Prevention & Intervention

The Mission of the University of Minnesota is threefold, focusing on Research, Education, and Outreach. Research: We seek new knowledge that can change how we all work and live. At the University of Minnesota, students do research alongside top professors in all majors. Education: We prepare students to meet the great challenges facing our state, our nation, and our world. Outreach: We apply our expertise to meet the needs of Minnesota, our nation, and the world. We partner with communities across Minnesota to engage our students, faculty, and staff in addressing society's most pressing issues. This VISTA position will focus on community-based solutions to the opioid crisis, which is currently the most critical public health issue in northeastern Minnesota, focusing on capacity building for rural northeastern Minnesota counties working with the University of Minnesota on the USDA-NIFA Rural Health and Safety Education Grant and the SAMHSA Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Grant. The VISTA will build on existing partnerships with local, regional, state, and national agencies to enhance opioid prevention efforts and build systems to reduce overdose and expand understanding and options for treatment and build community Recovery Capital. This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor .
