22-23 Washington State Parks Naturalist
 
 
 
Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission has 124 state parks that are dedicated toward the conservation and preservation of some of the most diverse and protected resources scattered throughout Washington State. The goal of WSPRC is to connect people with places and ensure our visitors have a memorable experience with some of our most treasured places and ecosystems. WSPRC has15 positions available for AmeriCorps service members as an Interpretive Naturalist or an Eco-System Naturalist at 8 different locations (Lake Chelan, Saltwater, Federation Forest, Deception Pass, Fort Casey, Upper Cowlitz, Moran, Fort Worden, Sacajawea). Interviews will start as soon as April 15, 2022. Member will present programs at specific locations; studying various environments. Service includes extensive public education talks and service projects. It includes developing interpretive signs and brochures, writing monthly newsletter articles, and providing other interpretive activities. The member schedules, trains, and organizes many volunteers to serve on special projects in the park. Reduced cost housing might be available at some locations. This is a service opportunity that provides a living stipend. Educational assistance award available upon successful program completion. This position is contingent on funding. Member Duties : Member will educate youth and visitors about marine life, forest environments, cultural history, and other natural and historical subjects throughout Washington State Parks. Through education and various projects, the visitor will be better educated to take care of the park and his or her community, and the ecosystems will be better protected. Member will perform various park protective projects, such as noxious weed removal, trail improvements, and invasive green crab monitoring and education. Member will present programs at specific locations, and study various environments. Member will report to State Parks at least monthly about current projects, and future plans. Member will serve with park staff to accomplish these goals. Member will meet face to face with at least 1,000 un-duplicated individuals who will receive training in environmental awareness. At least 700 individuals will indicate an increased awareness and knowledge.
