2019-20 Reading Assist Intervention Corps

As a member of the Reading Assist Intervention (RAI) Corps, you will teach foundational reading skills to the students who struggle the most inside low-income elementary schools in Delaware. You would begin your year of service with extensive training alongside fellow Corps members, learning our accredited and successful Reading Assist Intervention Program. Each Corps member is matched with six students in grades 1-3 to meet with every day for 45 minutes. A professional coach will observe and support you throughout the year. This intensive schedule can be challenging, but enables Corps members to have an incredible impact on their students’ achievement. At the end of a successful year, you would receive certification as a Certified Reading Assist Interventionist, and many of our Corps members have gone on to pursue careers in specialized reading intervention. Wilmington, Delaware is a thriving small city that enjoys a relatively low cost of living on the east coast, centrally located with easy access to beaches, biking and hiking trails. Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC are easily accessible for day and weekend trips. As an AmeriCorps member, you would receive a living allowance of $18,000, health insurance and possible deferments on student loan payments. Upon successful completion of a term of service, you will be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award which can be used to pay off student loans or to further your education. Member Duties : RAI Corps members serve full-time inside schools, providing daily, intensive reading intervention. Regular duties include: preparing daily lesson plans, meeting regularly with coaches, monitoring student progress with weekly assessments, maintaining attendance records, communicating with Reading Assist staff and school personnel, and attending mandatory trainings and events that are part of both Reading Assist and AmeriCorps programs.
