Environmental Education in Winnebago County-Spring
Severson Dells Nature Center has been providing nature education for all ages in northern Illinois for over 40 years. Members will support school field trip programs to help students learn about local habitats, predator and prey interactions, food webs, animal and plant adaptations and basic ecology of the area. During the term of service, Members will receive training in all of the above topics, best practices in environmental education, group management, and have the opportunity to develop and try nature-based lessons of their own. Severson Dells encourages people of all backgrounds and social identities to apply! Severson Dells makes reasonable accommodations for service and interviews. The application deadline is February 25, 2019. Candidates that apply by that deadline will have a higher chance of being matched with the program. Terms of Service: There are two types of member positions available for Environmental Education at Severson Dells. Complete 900 hours of service and training Receive $1,600 Living Allowance and $2,960 Education Award Complete 675 hours of service and training Receive $800 Living Allowance and $2,255.24 Education Award

Member Duties : Members will provide hands-on nature education for a wide variety of ages, but primarily to students on school field trips. Members will also have the opportunity to develop and test their own nature-based lesson with the support of the Severson Dells staff and their fellow members. Members will receive training on local ecology, best practices in environmental education and group management techniques. Service at Severson Dells will also provide opportunities for members to participate in professional development activities with the Environmental Education Association of Illinois and other education associations as appropriate. Service times will typically be from Tuesday- Saturday 8:00am-2:00pm during the school year and 8:00-4:00pm during the summer. There are some variations to this, but this tends to be standard.
