20-21 New Mexico STEM Afterschool Expansion VISTA
New Mexico Out-of-School Time Network (NMOST) is embarking on exciting new work to expand the amount of STEM opportunities in afterschool programs. High quality afterschool programs have shown to increase student academic performance, behavioral improvements and have been a factor in supporting regular school attendance. The overall focus of the STEM project is to continue to develop statewide systems and practices that can increase the amount and quality of STEM programming in afterschool to engage underserved low-income students, students of color, and students in rural communities in STEM. The STEM Afterschool Expansion VISTA will work to build partnerships with STEM-related businesses, industry partners, higher education officials, and schools to increase coordination and improve the quality of afterschool programs.
