Disaster Corps Member - Part Time

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in the community? Do you want to gain new skills and experiences? Are you passionate about empowering communities to prepare for and recover from disasters? The American Red Cross is currently seeking up to two individuals to serve as part-time Disaster Corps AmeriCorps member starting in late October or November for a term of 11 months (1200 hours, or 28-30 hours per week when not actively deployed on disaster assignment). Note: A 1700-hour term over 11 months (full time service, or 38-40 hours per week) is also available and is given hiring preference, so please search my.americorps.gov for the keyword "Disaster Corps" to identify the alternate listing. Though these positions will be based out of the American Red Cross Chicago office, members will have the opportunity to train for and respond to disasters across the state of Illinois. POSITION SUMMARY: Disaster Corps members will support impacted communities with spontaneous volunteer management and donation coordination in the event of a local or state disaster. Members will work hand-in-hand with local and state government entities, non-profit organizations, and other community organizations to provide timely and meaningful service opportunities to those seeking to assist their own communities after a disaster strikes. During steady-state operations, Disaster Corps members will work alongside Safe Families AmeriCorps members to provide preparedness programming to adults and youth throughout the Greater Chicago area. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in disaster response efforts on both the local and state-wide level as needed.
