Together We Prepare - Flint
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps Together We Prepare (TWP) program has been an AmeriCorps*State program since 2005. The AmeriCorps TWP program is partnered with the Michigan Region of the American Red Cross with a primary focus in disaster services. The program works to provide disaster preparedness education to community members as well as local and national disaster response when needed. The TWP program places members throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Traverse City. All members in this program receive a bi-weekly living allowance and an education award upon successful completion. Eligible members receive basic health care coverage, student loan forbearance and accrued interest payment, and child care assistance.

Member Duties : - Schedule and facilitate Preparedness Education (PE) presentations - Act as a member of the Disaster Action Team (DAT), responding to local emergencies. This may include some weekends and overnights - Coordinate Red Cross involvement in community events and attend events - Participate in team meetings, relevant training, and service projects - Prepare and edit Preparedness Education materials as necessary - Assist the Disaster Program Manager in the coordination of the Sound the Alarm Campaign which includes outreach, media, planning events, recruiting volunteers, scheduling appointments, and coordinating home visits to install free smoke alarms in the community - Support fellow Together We Prepare members on their overall preparedness needs - Participate in National Days of Service - Promote AmeriCorps and the TWP program to community members - Wear the AmeriCorps logo at all times when earning service hours - Participate in professional development training
