Stewards VISTA: GAVCC Development & Engagement Coordinator

Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps (GAVCC) is a Conservation Legacy program supported in partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation. GAVCC strives to cultivate a new generation of local land stewards while alleviating poverty. We work to build and support sustainable public access, historical interpretation and ecological health. Stewards Individual Placement Program Members understand the tie between environmental and economic health. They address community environmental needs and raise awareness of the environment’s role in human and community wellbeing, catalyzing action that ensures sustainable environmental health for future generations through education and exposure to conservation careers. They create economic opportunities that benefit communities through neighborhood revitalization, small business development, and job-skills training. Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps provides youth and young adults with structured, safe, and challenging work, skills training, hands-on experience, and educational opportunities. Participants are exposed to specialized career fields on public lands and pathways to pursue those opportunities.
