In 2014 LTSC Resident Services staff began the Financial Capability & Asset Building Program. The program consists of (1) building the financial capacity of residents in order to put them in a position to build assets; includes acquiring skills, knowledge, or improving their cash position, which can enable them to build assets; (2) assist residents in creating or strengthening financial assets such as increased savings, improved credit record &/or FICO score by paying bills on time, completing a degree, certificate, or job skill course, securing a higher paying job or other additional income. The services have grown to include a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site; an IRS sponsored free tax help program for people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities & limited English speaking taxpayers, needing assistance with tax preparation. The VISTA Member will serve one-year of service with the Resident Services staff in managing the department’s Volunteer Program; enhance current onboarding procedures, train new volunteers & staff, update tracking system to accurately identify hours served by volunteers. The volunteer will research & write grant proposals to leverage funding in support of department programs. The ideal candidate will work well in a team setting but also independently.
