Community Engagement Programs
Hub programs offer different levels of programmatic support in order to meet communities where they are. Many communities that participate in an entry-level program, such as Cultivate WV, grow their capacity to fit with the next level support programs such as Blueprint Communities. VISTA’s are an essential part of that capacity building process. The Hub continues with many of these communities on their journey as they move from low to high capacity communities. Communities will, through each program, be building their capacity around specific leadership skills, teamwork success, community engagement techniques, facilitation skills, communications and marketing, business outreach and training materials, knowledge of service providers and funding resources, and grant writing abilities. Cultivate WV helps two communities create sustainable community engagement structures and develop community leadership skills. Through the program, the Hub offers community coaching, workshops and trainings focused on community engagement, communications, building redevelopment, small business development and funding for small and large-scale projects. Through Blueprint Communities, participating communities work over a 5-year period (intensive the first 2 years) to develop a plan that moves forward a transformational project in their community that takes into account physical, economic, and social needs. Objectives of the program include defining vision, planning and strategy implementation, while fostering strong community collaboration and leadership in rural West Virginia communities. The VISTA will work with multiple communities (some participating in Cultivate WV and others participating in Blueprint) to help build the capacity of these programs and the effectiveness of communities. The position will involve a good amount of shadowing each program’s lead and learning about community engagement and program development structures and implementation.
