City of Austin, Community Outreach and Engagement VISTA
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department's mission is to provide, protect, and preserve a park system that promotes quality recreational, cultural, and outdoor experiences for the Austin community. The Community Activated Park Project provides neighbors, community groups, and partners to raise funds and in-kind contributions to implement park improvement projects. VISTA will develop community relationships and resources to increase participation of low-income communities seeking improvements in their community parks. VISTA will contribute to equity goals by meeting with conducting community engagement events and collecting feedback to overcome barriers to participation. In order to increase park opportunities in low-income neighborhoods the VISTA will add structure to Connection Children to Nature, especially targeting low income neighborhoods to increase park access.
